Slow start cost’s Phoenix
Rotherham Phoenix collected a losing bonus point in their Yorkshire 3 clash away to Bramley Phoenix, as they suffered a narrow 15-11 defeat.
Phoenix started poorly and trailed 15-0 after just 10 minutes, giving themselves a mountain to climb. However, the spirited Rotherham side slowly worked themselves back into the contest, with number eight James Scothern and winger Dan Johnson particularly impressing with their performances.
Matters took a further turn for the worse shortly before half time when the referee red-carded a Rotherham player. Controversially, many thought it should have been a Bramley player first back into the showers.
Phoenix sole reward for their first half endeavours was a Sam Parker penalty, which left the Clifton Lane based side trailing 15-3 at the interval.
With a sense of injustice, Rotherham Phoenix came out for the second half galvanised and proceeded to camp in the host’s half. The resulting pressure saw second rower Luke Palethorpe touch down and scrum half Sam Parker knock over a penalty.
Unfortunately for Rotherham the clock ticked down and they came up just short of achieving a remarkable turnaround.
This Saturday Rotherham Phoenix are at home to Burley, kick-off at Clifton Lane is 3pm.
