Passionate plea from Michael Sylvester to supporters
Rotherham Titans Events Manager and long-standing supporter of the club, Michael Sylvester, has sent out a heartfelt plea to all Titans supporters ahead of the big Yorkshire derby against Leeds Carnegie.
As has been well documented, Titans clash against Leeds will now take place at Sheffield Rugby Club on Abbeydale Road South, Sheffield, on Saturday 19 April; kick-off 5:15pm.
Please see Michael’s comments below, which also include important information concerning the fixture.
When told about the game switch I was in all honesty heartbroken. We have put so much effort into raising our standards and getting more people into the Titans Bar it was gut wrenching to be told our last and biggest regular season game was not going to happen at the Lane. Those of you at Titan Tuesday will have heard Martin Jenkinson talk about us receiving the news like bereavement.
We are now at the point where there is one thing and one thing alone that matters.
To give Lee and the boys the best most competitive chance to succeed.
Nothing else matters and those of us in the backroom will be sweating blood to make it happen.
Here is a quick summary from the front of house side for where we are at:
First we need to get you there.
Car parking is being looked at closely and we should have better parking than we do at Clifton Lane, more details should be available next week.
We are looking at putting buses on, but we need to gauge interest, if you would want to use a bus from the Titans to Abbeydale and back please send me your details and how many in your party. Email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
The trains service is very good leaving Rotherham Central every hour at about ten to the hour changing in Sheffield to the Manchester service and off at Dore just after twenty past with the ground just five minutes away. Return fare is £4.60 and the first train back after full time is 8.01pm arriving Rotherham 8.27pm so you could be back at the post match party by 9pm (something I am working on btw). The train also serves Meadowhall, Swinton, Mexborough, Conisbrough and Doncaster.
The 97 & 98 bus services run regularly from the High Street in Sheffield about every 10 minutes in the day and about every 15 minutes just after full time.
We are getting excellent co-operation from Abbeydale Sports Club and Sheffield Rugby. There are 200 seats in a covered shed and a terraced area slightly smaller than the terrace at the cricket end.
Abbeydale are operating all the inside bars and we the outside, which includes a beer tent kindly being left up by Sheffield Rugby Club from their beer festival the week before. We will also have a beer truck from Greene King and are looking at barbecue and hog roasting.
Dion’s pie will be available and we are looking at best sighting for the snap wagon.
We are working on something special pre match which I cannot yet promise will come off but watch this space and post match we are looking at a shortened Third Half so every body can head back to Roth and join us for what should have been our post match party.
We are working our tripe out over the next few weeks so be patient on return emails and phone calls (I am on 01709 408162 & 07432 509987) and please, please, do your best to give these lads the best chance of winning whatever anybodies opinion on the rescheduling; they have earned that from us.
