Titans add second row Tom Holmes to squad

Rotherham Titans have strengthened their squad further ahead of next season with the signing of lock forward Tom Holmes from Premiership outfit Sale Sharks.

Tom, 24, is currently on loan with Rotherham, having joined up with the squad in March and since joining he’s appeared in all of the Titans Championship games subsequently.

Holmes, who has represented Sandbach RUFC and Sedgley Park, is a product of the Sale Sharks academy. From the Sharks academy Tom progressed into the first team where he made 25 appearances which saw him involved in the Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup, Aviva Premiership and LV= Cup.

The 6' 4" and 17 ½ stones lock is thrilled to be extending his time with the Titans and commenting on the news said, “I’ve loved my time here at Rotherham, we have a great bunch of boys and I’m really excited to be part of the squad going forward.

“We are now at the business end of the season and we’re all looking forward to the Bristol challenge. We know if we perform to our best we can shock a lot of people and if we reach the final, then who knows where things will end.”

Equally delighted at Holmes’ extended stay at Clifton Lane is head coach Lee Blackett, as he revealed, “Tom is a great signing for us; he’s a guy who has plenty of Premiership experience having played at the top level. He’s come with a fantastic attitude and he’s impressed everyone whilst he’s been here. He’s very knowledgeable about the game and at the set piece he’s very good.

“Tom had plenty of interest in him from the outside, but he’s really enjoyed being here and he wanted to stay on. Tom’s a massive player for us and he’s already become one of the leaders within the group. He has a terrific work rate in games and sometimes he can go unnoticed, but when you look at the stats you realise just how much work this guy puts in.

“I think signing a player of Tom’s ability really shows how far we have developed as a club and we are looking forward to working with him again next season.”
