Special Family Day at Clifton Lane: The Yorkshire Regiment

Special Family Day at Clifton Lane

Rotherham Rugby Club is planning a special day for all the family at Clifton Lane this Saturday for the visit of Doncaster Knights in the big South Yorkshire derby; kick-off at the Lane is 2pm.

A Titans v Knights encounter in itself always conjures up some thrilling entertainment, as both sides seek the South Yorkshire “Bragging rights”. However, the fixture on Saturday has the added spice of also being part of the Yorkshire Regiment Trophy and as such there will be a significant Armed Forces presence, with various displays and activities available.

Among the various elements of the Forces present, there will be representation from The Yorkshire Regiment, The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), The Regular Forces Employment Association (REFA), The Royal British Legion and The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).

On site there will be two armoured vehicles present, a mini assault course and three camouflage tents containing various displays. Among the displays, The Royal British Legion will be on hand with their poppy appeal and there will be a bucket collection to support this most worthwhile of causes.

Within the camouflaged tents, in addition to the Royal British Legion, there will be displays from the Army recruitment services, SSAFA, REME, REFA, Willmott Dixon and the NHS.

This latest collaboration between the Titans and the Armed Forces follows their recent link-up with a scheme called, Tickets for Troops. Whereby the scheme provides tickets to injured and serving armed forces personnel. For further information on Tickets for Troops, go to http://www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk/

A spokesman for the Titans said ahead of Saturday’s event, “Rotherham Rugby Club is both proud and delighted to be able to support our heroic and courageous servicemen and women in this way. Saturday’s event at Clifton Lane promises to be a great family day out, where everyone can enjoy a top class competitive rugby match, whilst enjoying and supporting the various Military displays on show. Hence, we would encourage as many people and families as possible, to come along and enjoy a great day’s entertainment and in turn support our Armed Forces personnel.”
