Rieder extends his stay at Clifton Lane

Rotherham Titans are delighted to announce that back row forward Alex Rieder has committed his future to the club; penning a deal which will see him remain at Clifton Lane until 2014.

The twenty one years-old former Leeds Carnegie player has enjoyed a memorable first season in South Yorkshire, featuring in all of Titans Championship games this term, scoring three tries along the way.

Rieder has impressed frequently this year with his eye-catching line-breaks and his ability to steal opposition ball. Even more is expected from the youngster next season and Titans Assistant Coach Lee Blackett, said of the news, “It’s great news for the club that Alex has committed himself to the Titans for next season, especially as he’s had a lot of attention from elsewhere, including lots of interest from Premiership sides. However, Alex thinks at this stage of his career he will benefit more by staying with us and I have to agree with that.

“He’s been outstanding for us this term, not just as one of our best forwards but as one of our best players throughout the side. He’s one of our best line-breakers and without doubt he’s the best turnover guy in the squad.

“Like all players though he has weaknesses that he needs to work on, but he knows that himself and with his desire, ambition and hard-work, everyone at the club appreciates he could go a long way in the game. We see it as retaining a Premiership quality player and are delighted to have done so and I’m sure our supporters will be equally delighted to hear that Alex will be with us again next season.”

Rieder himself is very ambitious and aims to compete at the highest level possible. Staying at Clifton Lane, Alex believes is the best way forward, as he explained, “I am delighted to have extended my contract with the Titans. One major factor in making the decision was the backroom staff at the club and the supporters and I would like to go on record in thanking them for making my first season at the Lane such an enjoyable one.

“I’m a young player and I’m very ambitious, but I realise I still have a lot to learn. I need to acquire more experience and to improve my game further and to be able to do that at Rotherham is fantastic. Rotherham is a well respected club, a great place to learn your trade and there’s no better club in the Championship. I’m already looking forward to next season and being part of a team that can push for a top four spot.”
