Phoenix enjoy a winning weekend
Rotherham Phoenix enjoyed a winning weekend last week as both the 1st and 2nd teams deservedly ran-out victors against local outfit Hemsworth.
Phoenix first team endured torrid away form in Yorkshire Division 3 last term; however, after a solid pre-season campaign they travelled the short distance to Hemsworth in confident mood.
Phoenix were missing influential captains Luke Palethorpe and Owen Swift through injury, along with first choice hooker Scott Crookes and regular first team player Tom Coy. However, they started brightly and opened the scoring through a Jenkinson penalty.
Further pressure allowed Jenkinson to increase the scoring from another penalty, before flanker Oliver Dynan crossed the whitewash from a smart catch and drive.
After the interval the home side came into the game after scoring an interception try. However, full back Saddington raced the length of the field and Jenkinson added the extras to give the away side a comfortable lead.
Roth were reduced to 14 men as prop Mike Ward was sent off but they hung on to deservedly record their first win of the season.
Final Score: Hemsworth 14 Rotherham Phoenix 18
Team: Saddington, Greaves, Pearson, Jarvis, Shaw, Jenkinson, Parker, White, Dynan, Howells, Mallender, Eades, Ward, Robinson, Banks.
